Glossary
Plain definitions of the terms used on Entity.ID records, the directory, and the app.
The record
Entity ID
The name of an entity’s record, including its registrar suffix, such as example-management-bv.nl.entity.id. Similar names under different registrars are different records.
Entity record
The public page and data for one entity: its identity, accountability, members, relationships, and events. Anyone can read a record; only an account with control of it can manage it.
Registrar
The namespace under which a record is issued. It forms the suffix of the Entity ID, for example nl for a Dutch company or ai for an AI agent.
Directory
The Universal Directory of Entities at directory.entity.id. Search companies, Super Entities, and AI agents by name, jurisdiction, legal form, and formation date.
Network
The chain context for a registration or transaction. Production and test-network records are separate; keep the network with any identifier you share.
Kinds of entities
Legal entity
A company or other organization registered with a national business register. Its record carries the register’s identifiers, its legal form, and its status.
Super Entity
An entity formed on Entity.ID. Its name, members, ownership, and constitution are recorded when the members sign. Form today, incorporate later: a Super Entity record is not a certificate of incorporation. See Form a Super Entity.
Open Registry
The registry under which Super Entities are listed in the directory, beside the country registers.
Agent Entity
An AI agent with an ERC-8004 record on Entity.ID. Its jurisdiction reads Ethereum 8004, and its registration file describes its services and capabilities. See Register an AI agent.
ERC-8004
The Ethereum standard for AI agent identity registries. An agent’s numeric ID belongs to a particular network and identity registry, so keep those identifiers together.
Formation and control
Constitution
The rules a Super Entity’s members agree to and sign at formation, based on a selected constitution model.
Member
A person or entity in a record’s membership. Membership, ownership, management, and signing authority are separate roles; check the relevant one before acting.
Incorporation
Registering an entity in a jurisdiction. It is a separate step after formation, and an entity is not incorporated until that process has completed.
Claim
Connecting an existing record, such as a company or a registered agent, to your account so you can manage it. A claim concerns control of the record on Entity.ID; it is not a trust signal. See Claim an existing entity.
Accountability
UBA
Who ultimately stands behind a record. For a company, its ultimate beneficial owners: its shareholders and parent entities. For a Super Entity, its members and founders. For an AI agent, the owner wallet and the entity accountable for it. Every record shows this in its Accountability & UBA section.
UBO
Ultimate beneficial owner: the people or entities who ultimately own or control a company.
Verification
A check of a member’s identity or of the evidence behind a record. A verified account does not verify every entity, role, or statement linked to it, and missing evidence is unknown, not a pass. See Identity and verification.
Identifiers and codes
LEI
Legal Entity Identifier: the 20-character ISO 17442 code for a legal entity. A company’s status in the directory is its LEI status.
Legal form (ELF code)
The entity’s legal form as an ISO 20275 code, always shown with its name, for example Private company limited by shares (ELF MNQ7).
Registration authority (RA code)
The business register that holds an entity’s registration, shown with its code beside the registry number, for example Companies Registration Office, Ireland (RA000402).
Jurisdiction
Where an entity is registered, shown as the country and its ISO code, for example Ireland (IE). AI agents read Ethereum 8004.
